I bought this unit – BEWARE – the software Basecamp for creating routes, etc – is NOT COMPATIBLE!!! You have to try an outdated piece of software – Roadtrip – wich does not have all the routing functionality – !!! Horrible support. I have to say the woman at Garmin stayed on the phone with me for over and hour and half trying to figure out how I can create a route and then download it to the device!!! DID NOT WORK! I may have to send this back. A lot of cash to spend on a device that does not support the most current software.
While I agree that creating a route isn’t the most straight forward task, it is perfectly possible to do so from Basecamp.
I have created routes and trips with hundreds of waypoints.
I once got an update, sent my daughter out of town for the week to the big city. GPS crashed. Fortunately, she got directions and was okay. Turned out it was a bad update. The next update fixed it.
Avoid like the plague. You have to download specific country maps. It will invariably select the wrong turn at junctions, or not show you the right turn, despite what the road sign tells you. For some inexplicable reason, it will take you to the exact GPS centre of a selected waypoint and then stop navigating! Perfect! This device has cost me many hours of frustration and many hours of increased journey time. Perfect for the dustbin!
Dreadful Product Support (or lack of it). I run top of the line Apple computers – all newish – but, due to a bug in the Zumo’s software, they don’t recognize it. I spoke to both Zumo USA and Zumo tech support. No one could fix the problem on-line because, apparently, the software needs to be reflashed. I offered to ship the Zumo back to Garmin so that they could do this. They wouldn’t accept it, but instead offered me a risible credit towards the price of a new product. I won’t be buying Garmin again.
